Like music and sex, stories are eternal. From the earliest recorded times, people told each other stories, transmitting them down the centuries. Imagine ancient man, before the days of electricity, around a fire telling his family and friends a story that he had heard during the day. Stories are easy to tell and (you won’t believe this) rather easy to remember. Through them we learn about ourselves and our fellowmen. Genesis is mostly a chronicle of stories. And stories are really quite simple in structure; they are simply conflict and resolution. Somebody has a problem, and we want to know how he/she solves it. Fascinating stuff. Around the dinner table these days we tell each other stories, and sometimes we repeat them many times to the dismay our listeners. But they never tell you to stop in the middle of a good story!
